| In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating the week of October 16 through October 20 as “National Business Women’s Week” in our Commonwealth. Originally established by the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation, the purpose of National Business Women's Week is to honor the contributions of working women and employers who support working women and their families. It provides an opportunity to recognize women who have been the cornerstones of businesses in Pennsylvania and the United States, and facilitates open discussions to examine the methods to continue the future growth of women in business. The week celebrates the contributions of working women and companies that have made strides toward improving working women's lives in their communities. Today there are 7.2 million majority-owned, privately-held, women-owned businesses in the United States. These firms employ 7.3 million people and generate $1.1 trillion in sales. Presidents since Herbert Hoover have issued a National Business Women's Week® proclamation recognizing the contributions and achievements of working women. The first annual observance of National Business Women's Week® was held in 1928. Please join me in recognizing the achievements and efforts of business women in Pennsylvania. |
