Subject: | Proposed Resolution |
I am planning to introduce a Resolution designating the month of September, 2017 as "Histiocytosis Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. Histiocytosis is a general name for a group of rare disorders that involve an abnormal increase in the number of specialized white blood cells that are called histiocytes. In 1987, the Histiocyte Society first classified this group of disorders into three categories. The first category, dendritic cell disorder, includes Langerhans cell histosis, juvenile xanthogranuloma and Erdheim-Chester disease. The second category, macrophage cell disorder, includes hemophagoctyic lymphohistiocytosis and Rosai-Dorfman disease. The third category, malignant histiocytosis includes certain kinds of leukemia and malignant tumors. There are multiple competing classification systems, including a proposed five category system. Chemotherapy is a common treatment for histiocytosic disorders. Histiocytosic disorders can affect children or adults and more research is needed to help those impacted by the disorders. Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution. |
