Subject: Dairy Month and Dairy Farmers Appreciation Month
 
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution that designates June 2017 as Dairy Month and Dairy Farmers Appreciation Month.

Dairy farming is a proud family tradition in this Commonwealth, 99% of dairy farms in Pennsylvania are family owned. Pennsylvania has the second largest number of dairy farms nationally and ranks 6th nationally in total milk production from 2014 to 2016.

With fluid milk consumption down, family owned dairy farmers have felt the downward pressure on milk prices, but the Commonwealth’s dairymen and women are producing more milk than ever and contribute more than $7 billion dollars to Pennsylvania’s economy.

This resolution recognizes the importance of the dairy industry in Pennsylvania and honors the dairy farmers and their families in the Commonwealth for the hard work and contribution to the state and local economies.
