Subject: | Incentivizing Families to invest in their Children |
Children need an education in order to avoid the entrapments of poverty. A successful education positions children for successful futures as adults. While many mothers, fathers and grandparents or caretakers emphasize the importance of education and see to it that the children attend school; there are those families who do not emphasize the importance of education and are unwilling to ensure their children get to the classroom. A child can only receive a good education if they are in school. To promote the importance of education which fosters the ability of our children to write their own futures, I plan on introducing legislation that incentivizes households receiving public assistance to get their children back into the classroom. The legislation would sanction households with a school aged children under the age of 16 who fails to comply with the school attendance requirements as set in the Public School Code. The bill forces parents who are unwilling to address the issue of truancy to ensure the student stays in the classroom. If the school attendance requirements are not met, they risk losing public assistance. It is my hope, that the mere threat of such a sanction will incite families to get their children in the classroom. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
