Subject: | Extend the 2017 Amnesty Program |
I intend to introduce legislation to extend the current PA Amnesty Program for six (6) months to November 30, 2017. The current Amnesty Program, which is set to expire on June 19th, enables individuals and businesses to pay past-due taxes with all penalties and half of the interest waived during the amnesty period. Eligible are individuals and businesses with unpaid or underpaid state taxes as of Dec. 31, 2015, as well as taxpayers who failed to file for periods due on or before Dec. 31, 2015. A similar tax amnesty program offered in 2010 collected $254 million. Extending the current program through November 30, 2017 will allow the Department of Revenue to have additional time to research and sort through late amnesty notices received close to the current June 19 deadline and to accept new claims. In addition, The Amnesty Program is a great program that allows the Department of Revenue to clean up their files and taxpayers to become compliant. It has been brought to my attention that the tax preparation community and the Department of Revenue could jointly benefit from an extension of this program. Therefore, it only makes sense to extend the current amnesty program until November 30, 2017. Please consider co-sponsoring this legislation that will extend the PA Amnesty Program. |
