I plan to introduce a resolution that would designate May 24, 2017, as Emergency Medical Services for Children Day in Pennsylvania. Emergency Medical Services for Children is a program administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that works to ensure the provision of EMS for all children and adolescence no matter where they are and works to support EMS, the community-based public service whose presence is vital to children in need and whose needs are different than those of adults in medical emergencies. Emergency Medical Services for Children assists in the implementation of training for use of advanced technical equipment and services in preparation to save the life of a child and to reduce child and youth disability due to illness or injury. They also work with emergency physicians, emergency nurses, social workers, psychologists, rescue personnel, EMTs, paramedics, pre-hospital nurses, air medical personnel, emergency medical responders, emergency vehicle operators, firefighters, police officers, educators, dispatchers, administrators and others to identify and address the issues surrounding the provision of optimal pediatric care. Please join me in recognizing and honoring Emergency Medical Services for Children. |
