MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 18, 2017 02:06 PM
From: Representative Matt Gabler and Rep. Zachary Mako, Rep. Nick Miccarelli
To: All House members
Subject: National Guard Day in PA

We plan to introduce a resolution designating April 26, 2017 as “National Guard Day” in Pennsylvania.

The resolution recognizes more than 260 years of cooperation and support from the General Assembly for the Pennsylvania militia, the Pennsylvania National Guard and the soldiers and airmen who proudly serve this Commonwealth and nation and honors Guard members for their unselfish contributions to their dual mission of national security and emergency preparedness and response.

Pennsylvania’s approximate 19,000-member National Guard is one of the largest and most deployed forces in the nation, and the only National Guard to host a Stryker Brigade, built around one of the industry’s most powerful armored vehicles.

The PA National Guard is one of the top ten employers in Pennsylvania and one of the largest Guard forces in the United States.

Dating back to 1755, our nation’s volunteer militia has evolved into today’s modern, professional National Guard. These citizen-soldiers have taken part in every major U.S. military conflict since the Revolutionary War, and have been a vital part of peacekeeping missions, flood response and recovery, and many other domestic and international operations. Since September 11, 2001, more than 36,000 individual deployments of our soldiers and airmen have taken place in support of global contingencies, with many serving multiple deployments, making the PA Guard one of the busiest and most heavily deployed National Guards in the United States.

Please consider joining me in support of this resolution and our PA National Guard.
