Subject: | Bingo Law |
In the near future, I plan to re-introduce HB 1334 of 2015, legislation that will amend the state Bingo Law (Act 67 of 1981) pertaining to prizes and awards that have not been updated since the 1980’s. Specifically, my legislation will remove the restrictions regarding how many days a licensed association may conduct bingo games. Under current law, associations may only conduct of bingo two days a week. The limit on prizes that may be awarded will be increased as follows:
The legislation will also will remove the two-year wait requirement for volunteer fire companies that merge or consolidate services, provided that at least one of the entity holds a valid and current license prior to the consolidation or merger. Additionally, the legislation will allow pre-draw bingo and guest callers under certain circumstances. The legislation also amends the definition of “bona fide member” to eliminate the requirement that a bono fide member be a member of the association for at least one year. Finally, this legislation will allow licensed associations to advertise prizes and their dollar values for bingo games. Bingo is a valuable source of fundraising for many non-profits, and I hope you will consider cosponsoring this needed legislation that will enable the Commonwealth’s non-profits to raise more funds for their charitable purposes. If you have any comments, questions or concerns regarding this legislation, please contact my office at (717) 630-8942. Thank you. |
