MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 6, 2017 12:19 PM
From: Representative Jim Christiana
To: All House members
Subject: State Licensing Program for Plumbers

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to establish a state licensing program for plumbers within the Department of Labor and Industry. This bill was formerly HB 1357.

My legislation regulates who can call themselves a state licensed plumber, but it does not restrict who can perform plumbing services. The bill’s primary purpose is to protect the public health and eliminate the necessity for plumbers to obtain separate plumbing licenses from each municipality they work in. However, the bill does allow the existing plumbing licensing programs in Allegheny and Philadelphia Counties to continue.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Introduced as HB442
