Session of 2017 - 2018 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 5, 2017 02:06 PM
From: Representative Mark Longietti
To: All House members
Subject: Re-introduction of House Bill 960, legislation amending the Rail Freight Preservation and Improvement Act to expand the membership of the Rail Freight Advisory Committee

In the near future I plan to re-introduce House Bill 960, legislation amending the Rail Freight Preservation and Improvement Act to expand the membership of the Rail Freight Advisory Committee.

Currently, the committee has 24 members including rail shipping representatives from areas of coal, steel, railway and intermodal, as well as a representative from the Pennsylvania Chamber of Commerce. However, the committee does not currently have labor representatives from each of these areas, nor does it have a representative from the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO. My legislation would add five new members to the committee, being a labor representative for the areas of coal, steel, railway and intermodal, and a representative from the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO.

The use of rail freight is important to both the companies involved and to the workforce employed. Both of these groups have a vested interest in the future of rail freight. As such, I believe that it is important to not only have industry voices on the Rail Freight Advisory Committee, but also include labor voices on that committee.

Please join me in sponsoring this legislation which will provide a needed voice to the labor community when issues of rail freight are at stake.

Previous Co-Sponsors: Harkins, V. Brown, Driscoll, Kotik, Pashinski, McNeill, Cohen, DeLuca, Murt and Gibbons.
