Subject: | Sales Tax Exclusion for Library Book Sales (Prior HB 1867) |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will allow libraries to sell used books as a means of supplemental income throughout the year without paying sales tax. Current law allows for isolated sales which allow libraries to sell used books tax free for less than seven days per year. Many libraries are struggling for additional sources of revenue. Being able to sell their used books on an ongoing basis tax free would enable them to increase their operating capital, making them less dependent on municipal funding.
