In the near future, I will introduce legislation to enact a moratorium on COLAs for legislators until 12/01/20. A four year freeze on the salary for Representatives and Senators would be the result. Many of our constituents have experienced periods of four years without receiving a raise. It is ridiculous that Members were elected or reelected on 11/08/16 and then got a pay raise the very first day of the term on 12/01/16. Most PA employers do not give automatic pay raises to employees on their very first day on the job. We were all hired to a two year job. A law that was passed in 1995 grants the automatic COLAs. My proposed legislation is not repealing that law, however, my legislative intent is to just put a four year freeze on it and then resume COLAs on 12/01/20.
