Subject: | Increasing Penalties for Animal Cruelty Offenses- Previous House Bill 953 |
In the near future, I intend on introducing legislation to increase the monetary penalties associated with summary offenses of animal cruelty. My legislation would increase the current minimum fine for a summary count of animal cruelty from $50 to $250. Newspapers from across the Commonwealth far too often display headlines of unspeakable cruelty to those who do not have a voice to speak for themselves. The punishment does not fit the crime in these instances, and it is my hope that increased penalties will discourage future unspeakable abuse. I hope you will consider joining me in supporting this important measure which will increase the minimum penalties for those who mistreat the most vulnerable among us and discourage this despicable behavior to dogs and cats.
