Subject:	Resolution Designating September 25 – October 1, 2016 as “Direct Support Professionals Week” in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating September 23 – October 1, 2016 as “Direct Support Professionals Week” in Pennsylvania. As many of you know, direct support professionals and support coordinators assist individuals by helping to improve their daily lives. These professionals work directly with consumers throughout the Commonwealth to provide skillful and compassionate services and supports for seniors, people with developmental disabilities, people with mental illness, and those with chronic medical conditions. These efforts allow those in need to live with dignity and comfort in our communities and their efforts should be lauded. One day is not enough to properly thank our direct support professionals for the skillful and unselfish work they do 365 days a year. To that end, it is for these reasons and more that I am proud to offer this resolution recognizing the important work these professionals provide to our neediest and most vulnerable citizens. Please join me in sponsoring this resolution.
