Subject:	Resolution Recognizing Delta Day on May 17, 2016

In the near future, we plan to introduce a resolution honoring Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and recognizing the annual Delta Day at the State Capitol. The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority boasts 20 statewide chapters from Philadelphia to Allegheny and Chester to York counties. For the past thirteen years, more than 900 diligent members of this dynamic organization have traveled through the halls of the Capitol building in an effort to connect with elected officials, advance critical legislation, and serve as a voice for voiceless. Established during a period in American history where women were zealously advocating for political and social equality, the 22 founding members of Delta Sigma Theta became leading advocates of the Women’s Suffrage movement, setting the stage for the organization’s commitment to social activism. Over the past 103 years, the women of Delta Sigma Theta have worked strategically to continue to abide by their founding principles of social and political action as well as educational and professional advancement through service, leadership, and empowerment. For the past century, members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority have led countless initiatives addressing crucial statewide issues, including voter registration and education; equal educational opportunities for all children; financial literacy and economic empowerment; academic and financial support for Historically Black Colleges and Universities; and access to quality and affordable health care. The women of Delta Sigma Theta continue to be magnificent examples of servant-leaders. Their uncompromising commitment to the community continues to be the foundation of their activism and the driving force to carry on the mission of Delta Day at the State Capitol. Please join me us recognizing and honoring Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., “a sisterhood called to serve.” Thank you for your support of this resolution.
