Subject: Resolution Honoring Sean Parker for His Gift and Creation of the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution honoring the work and initiative taken by Philanthropist Sean Parker to create the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy. Mr. Parker enjoyed tremendous success in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s as a founder of Napster and Plaxo. These genre-defining companies shook up the World Wide Web and have left a lasting impact on how we get our music and organize our personal contacts. Now Mr. Parker has turned his focus and fortune to help battle cancer.

The Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy intends to accelerate the development of breakthrough immune therapies capable of turning cancer into a curable disease by ensuring the coordination and collaboration of the field’s top researchers and quickly translating their finding into patient treatments. Among the recipients of Mr. Parker’s investment will be the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine, Dr. Carl June, who is pioneering T-cell therapies that have shown great results in several blood cancers.

Last month, I held a press conference on my House Resolution 695 which highlighted the amazing work in cancer research being done across the Commonwealth. I also challenged those successful individuals in our country to give back and support the noble cause of cancer research. Mr. Parker’s decision to step up and fight this important battle should be recognized and emulated across our nation.

Please join me in supporting this resolution to honor the charitable giving of Mr. Sean Parker.
