MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 6, 2016 12:49 PM
From: Representative Bernie O'Neill
To: All House members
Subject: 4p-/Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome Awareness Day

Next Monday, I plan to introduce a resolution that will declare April 16, 2016, as 4p-/Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome Awareness Day in the state of Pennsylvania.

Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome, also known as 4p, is a chromosomal disorder caused by a partial deletion of the short arm of chromosome 4. Children with 4p- syndrome are usually born with low birth weight and develop slowly, both cognitively and physically, compared to their peers. While Children with 4p- syndrome experience medical complications, most hold the common trait of having a very pleasant and lovable personality. It is estimated that 4p- syndrome occurs in 1 out of every 50,000 births, with an estimate that 30% die within the first few years of life.

Please consider joining me in recognizing April 16, 2016, as 4P-/Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome Awareness Day in the state of Pennsylvania.

Thank you.
