Subject: | Resolution: Designating April 22, 2016, as “Local Craft Beer Day” in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating April 22, 2016, as “Local Craft Beer Day” in Pennsylvania. April 22 marks the kickoff of Harrisburg Beer Week, which runs from April 22 through 30 and celebrates the growing craft beer industry in the greater Harrisburg area. Harrisburg Beer Week also coincides with the sixth annual PA Flavor, an event to be held April 23 that showcases Pennsylvania food and beer. Both events celebrate Pennsylvania-produced craft beer, locally sourced products, and the economic impact this industry has on the surrounding community. The U.S. craft beer industry increased 18 percent by volume and 22 percent by dollar share in 2014. By the conclusion of 2014, craft breweries were opening at a rate of 1.5 per day, with more than 2,000 breweries in planning. Pennsylvania plays an important role in these statistics as the current national leader in annual craft beer production. Pennsylvania boasts at least 136 craft breweries, which generate nearly $4.5 billion in economic impact right here in the Commonwealth. My resolution seeks to bring awareness to the growing craft beer industry in our Commonwealth. Please join me in recognizing April 22, 2016, as “Local Craft Beer Day” in Pennsylvania, thereby shining a light on this important industry. |
