Subject: | Resolution Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the York Water Company |
In the very near future, I plan to introduce a resolution commemorating the York Water Company’s 200th year of continual operation. On February 23, 1816, the York Water Company was created by thirty shareholders interested in providing a public water system to the citizens of York. By the end of 1816, York Water Company was providing both fire protection and domestic water to 55 customers. Over its 200 year history, York Water Company has proven that by providing a superior product and quality services a company can overcome the challenges of a changing world. Investment in local charitable, educational and civic organizations, reflect the commitment that York Water Company has to ensure the healthy growth of the communities it serves. As one of the oldest public traded companies in the United States, York Water Company has continually paid a dividend despite a Rebel Occupation and a Great Depression. During its founding, York Water Company was a rare example of a privately held company providing a public utility. The synergy between private enterprise and public goods served as prologue to 200 years of successful business operation. I hope you will join me, along with the York Delegation, in commemorating the unique past, and promising future of the York Water Company. |
