MEMORANDUM

Subject: REVISED-Black History Month Recognition of Army Brigadier General Charles R. Hamilton

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing and honoring the service, leadership and courage of Army Brigadier General Charles R. Hamilton of the City of Philadelphia during Black History Month 2016.

After enlisting in the U.S. Army, Brigadier General Charles R. Hamilton went on to graduate from Officer Candidate School in 1988 and was recognized as the Distinguished Military Graduate for his class. He was subsequently commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps. Since then, he has succeeded throughout a long and notable military career, which has included overseas assignments in Korea and Afghanistan. He was most recently assigned as the Executive Officer to the Army Deputy Chief of Staff.

On July 13, 2015, Brigadier General Charles R. Hamilton assumed command of Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. In this position, he will oversee a global workforce of approximately 2,900 civilian and military personnel; a body that annually provides approximately $13 billion in food, clothing, textiles, construction and engineering equipment, pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and equipment, to America’s warfighters and other valued customers worldwide.

Brigadier General Charles R. Hamilton’s exceptional military service continues the proud and longstanding tradition of African-American contributions to the military; a tradition which has carried on since the American Revolutionary War. Additionally, his new position highlights the Philadelphia Navy Yard’s established history of elevating and furthering African-American employment during past times of discrimination and inequality in the work force.

During the celebration of Black History Month 2016, I think it is more than appropriate that the House of Representatives recognize Army Brigadier General Charles R. Hamilton for his long and notable military career.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important piece of legislation to honor Army Brigadier General Charles R. Hamilton’s incredible achievements.
