Subject: Refueling Assistance for People with Disabilities Legislation

In an effort to ensure that people with disabilities are able to fill up their cars with gas, I am introducing a bill that will require attended self-service stations to provide refueling assistance upon the request of an individual with a disability. The need for assistance may be requested by honking or otherwise signaling an employee, and the assistance must be provided without any additional charge beyond the self-serve price.

Service stations which are required to provide refueling assistance must post a sign to notify customers that such assistance is available. A service station would not be required to provide this type of service at any time that it is operating on a remote control basis with a single employee. Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation which meets a need for thousands of disabled motorists traveling in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and makes service stations more compliant with the spirit and law of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Thank you for your considering this legislation. If you have any questions, please contact Lauren Pacella at 787-1281 or at Lpacella@pahousegop.com
