MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 27, 2015 01:14 PM
From: Representative Leslie Acosta
To: All House members
Subject: Honoring Korean-American Veterans for their Service and Bravery During the Vietnam Conflict

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing the bravery of Korean-Americans during the Vietnam Conflict.

According to historical and military accounts, hundreds of thousands of soldiers from the Republic of Korea were sent to defend freedom around the globe during the Vietnam Conflict, supporting American troops and the cause of democracy and often paying with their lives. At the height of the conflict, approximately 325,517 Korean soldiers served in Vietnam from 1964 until the last soldier left Saigon on March 23, 1973.

It is also estimated that thousands of Korean veterans of the Vietnam Conflict currently reside in the United States and most of them have become American citizens with approximately 8% of those veterans having lived and worked in the greater Philadelphia area. Clearly, we owe these brave men an expression of the abiding gratitude of this Commonwealth that all veterans deserve for the service and sacrifices they made.

I invite you to join me in this resolution; thereby recognizing these individuals for their bravery, skill, and commitment on the battlefield.
