MEMORANDUM

From: Representative Stephen Kinsey and Rep. Maria P. Donatucci
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution Declaring September 2015 “Emergency Preparedness Month”

In the near future, I will introducing a resolution declaring September 2015 as “Emergency
Preparedness Month” in Pennsylvania.

Each year, the President of the United States proclaims of the month of September as “National
Emergency Preparedness Month” to stress the importance of strengthening the security and
resiliency of our Nation through systemic preparation for the hill range of hazards that threaten
the United States in the twenty-first century, including national disasters. cyber-attacks,
pandemic diseases, and acts of terrorism.

According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) website read’. urn),
this year’s theme is “Don’t Wait. Communicate. Make Your Emergency Plan Today.” Citizens
are being asked to take action now — to make a plan with one’s community, one’s family and for
one’s pets. . This small amount of planning will go far to mitigate any unnecessary confusion
during times of crisis. Every American is also being asked to participate in a national day of
action which culminates National Preparedness Month on September 3O.

My resolution urges Pennsylvania residents to observe “Emergency Preparedness Month” by
encouraging them to visit the FEMA and PEMA websites, and to utilize education resources to
learn how they can become prepared for emergencies.

I hope you will join us in co-sponsoring this important resolution.
