Subject: | Resolution Designating October 16, 2015, as “National Mammography Day” and October 2015 as “National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Pennsylvania |
In the near future I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing October 2015 as “National Breast Cancer Awareness Month” and October 16, 2015, as “National Mammography Day” in Pennsylvania. October 2015 marks the 30th anniversary of “National Breast Cancer Awareness Month” and the 22nd anniversary of “National Mammography Day.” In recognition of these important milestones, it is imperative that we continue to raise breast cancer awareness. Although the public has become more informed about preventative care and the benefits of early detection, the American Cancer Society estimates that 234,190 women and men in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer this year. Therefore, we must continue to educate the public about breast cancer health and stress the importance of routine self-breast exams, regularly scheduled doctor visits, and yearly mammograms as recommended. As stewards of public health, we must work collectively to spread awareness about this devastating disease. Please join me in cosponsoring this important legislation. |
