Subject: Cosponsor Legislation - Providing for Screening and Testing for Illegal Drugs
 
In the very near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will amend the Public Welfare Code to direct the Department of Human Services to develop and implement a drug test and a retest program to screen applicants and recipients of public assistance.

Unlike HB842, which I previously introduced and which would establish a mandatory program for the drug testing of welfare recipients, this bill would create a program requiring the screening of applicants for drug use, with a further testing requirement for welfare recipients based upon reasonable suspicion.
