Subject: | Designation of a Section of Columbus Boulevard, City of Philadelphia, as the William J. Guarnere (Wild Bill) and Edward James Heffron (Babe) Memorial Boulevard |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would designate a section of Columbus Boulevard, between Oregon Avenue and Washington Avenue in the City of Philadelphia--Philadelphia County, as the William J. Guarnere and Edward James Heffron Memorial Boulevard. Born in 1923, William J. Guarnere (Wild Bill) and Edward James Heffron (Babe) both grew up in South Philadelphia. They enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and served with Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, in the 101st Airborne Division during World War II. For their gallant service, they were awarded various medals commemorating their heroic actions during battle. In 2001, they were portrayed in the mini-series, Band of Brothers, produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. Both men exemplified the best qualities of the human existence. Please join me in supporting this legislation. |
