MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 10, 2015 04:09 PM
From: Representative Stephen Kinsey
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution commemorating the 62nd anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement (former HR 710)

In the near future, I will be re-introducing a resolution – former House Resolution 710 – which commemorates the 62nd anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement.

As you may recall, President Harry S. Truman ordered United States military intervention in Korea on June 27, 1950, two days after the invasion of South Korea by North Korea in a deadly coordinated attack. Spanning three years of active combat on land, by sea and in the air over the Korean Peninsula, the Korean War was one of the deadliest conflicts in American history, trailing only the Civil War, World War I and II, and the Vietnam War. Nearly two million Americans served in Korea during the Korean War. According to the Department of Defense, 36,516 Americans died in Korea and 7,862 Americans are still missing in action. 131 American soldiers, 97 of them posthumously, were awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for bravery.

Signed on July 27, 1953, the Korean War Armistice Agreement finally ended the war, leaving the Korean Peninsula divided at the 38th Parallel much as it had been at the close of World War II. As such, this year marks the 62nd anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement.

Let us honor those who served, those who died and those who never returned from the Korean Peninsula by commemorating the 62nd anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement. We must never forget the sacrifice of those who put their lives on the line in the Korean War.

Please co-sponsor this resolution to honor those who served our nation during the Korean War.
