Subject:	Agricultural Building Tax Exclusion

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will help preserve farms and increase the activity levels of agricultural operations in this Commonwealth. These measures will be achieved through legislation excluding building materials used for the construction and maintenance of animal production buildings from our Commonwealth’s sales and use tax. The result of said action will lower building costs and help farmers be more competitive. This Commonwealth’s farmers are currently at a disadvantage in this regard as many of our neighboring states have adopted similar legislation. The estimated total tax liability would be less than $4.2 million annually. This proposed legislation is akin to Senate Bill 582 of the 2013-2014 session which was created by Senator Mike Brubaker.
