Subject: | Medical Assistance/Child Support legislation (former HB 523) |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation (former HB 523) to require parents to support their children. I know this sounds like something that should already be in law, but believe it or not, we need a bill to require it. Currently, the welfare code is silent on the subject of medical support for children receiving Medical Assistance. My bill will require the non-custodial parent of children for whom Medical Assistance is sought to enroll their children in their own health insurance plans before the Commonwealth would pay for medical care for them. The Medical Assistance program would be the payer of last resort in these instances.' This legislation was passed by the House on Sept. 23, 2013 by a vote of 142-56. |
