MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 26, 2015 04:27 PM
From: Representative Curtis G. Sonney
To: All House members
Subject: Cyber Charter School Reform

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation which will make changes to the formula used by local school districts in determining their per student regular education payments to cyber charter schools.

Specifically, where the student’s district of residence operates its own full-time cyber school program, the school district’s per student regular education cyber charter school payment, for any resident student who chooses to attend a cyber charter school instead of the district’s own cyber program, will be equal to the district’s total expenditure per student enrolled in the district’s full-time cyber school program.

The total expenditure per student shall include all instructional, non-instructional support, technological, food service and facilities expenditures that are related in whole or in part to supporting the district’s full-time cyber school program.

By changing the cyber charter school payment formula in this manner, my bill will help to control school districts’ cyber charter school costs.

I would appreciate your consideration and support of this legislation. Thanks in advance.
