Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 3, 2015 12:07 PM
From: Representative Tarah Toohil
To: All House members
Subject: March 2015 as Intellectual Disabilities Awareness Month in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating March 2015 as Intellectual Disabilities Awareness Month in Pennsylvania.

In fiscal year 2013/2014, nearly 55,320 Pennsylvanians with intellectual disabilities received services and supports and more than 37,800 children, including significant numbers of children who have intellectual disabilities, received early intervention services. In addition, 14,801 persons with intellectual disabilities continue to wait for services.

These services and supports ensure that all citizens of Pennsylvania who have intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to participate in the range of life experience we all enjoy in our homes and communities: inclusion in schools, neighborhoods, businesses and places of worship. Public awareness and education improve the community’s understanding of intellectual disabilities and the services and supports needed to meet the specific needs and abilities of people with intellectual disabilities.

I hope you consider joining me in support of this resolution.
