In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation amending the Biofuel Development and In-State Production Incentive Act (Act 78 of 2008) to remove ethanol blending requirements. Ethanol in gasoline is a growing concern for Pennsylvania residents as problems have surfaced with its increased use in our vehicles. Ethanol fuels cause problems with fuel pumps, fuel gauges, as well as other engine performance issues. Moreover, mechanics are seeing more damage to small engines, in particular, the carburetor, attributable to the increased water retention by ethanol in fuel. Finally, ethanol has been shown to decrease fuel economy and our consumers deserve the best economy from the gasoline they purchase. Therefore, although there are federal standards for the use of ethanol in gasoline, we do not need to contribute to these problems in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Thank you and I hope you will consider joining me in support of this legislation. |
