MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 20, 2015 04:00 PM
From: Representative Michelle F. Brownlee
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution recognizing the month of January 2015 as “Big Brothers Big Sisters Month” in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I plan to introduce a Resolution recognizing the month of January 2015 as “Big Brothers Big Sisters Month” in Pennsylvania. The resolution will also recognize January 2015 as National Mentoring Month, and finally, the 100 Year Anniversary of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

As you know, Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nonprofit organization that establishes mentoring relationships to bring caring adults into the lives of underserved and vulnerable children. Studies show that children who live in areas where there is high poverty, high instances of juvenile arrests, or live in single parent households that are heavily impacted by homelessness, familial incarceration, or attend struggling schools are at a greater risk of academic and social failure.

Working through a network of donors, partners, family members, volunteers and advocates, Big Brothers Big Sisters supports and enriches the lives of participants while promoting and reinforcing positive activities, behaviors and attitudes for the children and their families.

With that said, I am proud to offer this Resolution and invite I you to join me by co-sponsoring this measure. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office at (717) 787-3480.
