House of Representatives
Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 5, 2015 08:51 AM
From: Representative W. Curtis Thomas
To: All House members
Subject: Philadelphia Tax Assessor Certification

In the near future, I plan to re-introduce legislation that would address a widely-reported problem with property valuations in Philadelphia.

The intent of the legislation is straight forward: to amend the Assessors Certification Act to include counties of the first class (Philadelphia). Presently, Philadelphia is the only county exempt from the requirements of the Assessors Certification Act. By removing this exemption, Philadelphia would be required to utilize certified assessors, adding professionalism and accuracy to its system and helping to restore faith and confidence in the assessment process.

This legislation has been introduced during the past three sessions (HB 408 of the 2013-14 Legislative Session) and has moved with unanimous support from the House of Representatives each time. This is an important issue for Philadelphia and its residents.

Please consider joining me in co-sponsoring this legislation.

Introduced as HB321
