MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 18, 2014 11:24 AM
From: Representative Justin J. Simmons
To: All House members
Subject: Safe School Walking Route

In the very near future, I will be re-introducing legislation to provide parents with more information in the fight against child predators.

My bill will require school districts to provide a link to the Megan’s Law website on the district homepage, allowing parents an easy reference point to identify threats to their children in and around their home and communities.

Additionally, any mailers or communication that the school sends home concerning transportation will also be required to include the Megan’s Law webpage address. This will provide parents the necessary tools to determine the safety precautions needed along the walking routes to and from the school bus stops.

I believe that these commonsense changes will help parents better keep their children safe while on their walk to school or to the school bus stop, without burdening the school district with a severe fiscal impact.

I hope you will consider supporting this legislation by signing on as a co-sponsor. If you have any questions, please contact my Harrisburg office at (717) 783-1673 or email at lnissly@pahousegop.com.
