MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 4, 2014 02:17 PM
From: Representative Neal P. Goodman
To: All House members
Subject: Fire Prevention Month

I will be introducing a resolution designating October as "Pennsylvania Fire Prevention Month" and observing the week of October 5-11, 2014 as "National Fire Prevention Week".

Each year since 1922, Fire Prevention Week is observed across the nation to remind people of fire dangers in their homes and communities, as well as to educate the public of simple fire prevention steps to make everyone safer. It is also an opportunity to recognize the efforts of all firefighters, fire service agencies, and other first responders in preventing and combating fire dangers.

The theme for National Fire Prevention Week 2014 is "Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month". Nearly 60% of reported home fire deaths from 2007-2011 resulted from fires in homes without any smoke alarms or working smoke alarms. Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in home fires by half.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution.
