Subject: | Lowering the Compulsory School Age |
In the near future, I am planning to introduce legislation to lower the compulsory school age from 8 years old to 5 years old. The minimum compulsory school age refers to the minimum age required by each state in which a student must be enrolled in, and attending, public school or some equivalent education program defined by the law. Currently, Pennsylvania’s minimum compulsory attendance age is higher than every other state in the nation except Washington. Pennsylvania and Washington are the only states that set their minimum compulsory attendance ages at eight. Early education has been proven to be very valuable to students. A high-quality early education can help to provide children with the tools they will need to succeed in life. These programs and experiences help nurture a child’s overall well-being. Please join me in ensuring that our children receive an education that starts early, and continues to help them grow throughout the whole of their time as students. |
