Subject: | Melanoma and Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month Resolution |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating May 2014 as "Melanoma and Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month in Pennsylvania". Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States with current estimates that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. Melanoma is the most common form of cancer for young adults between 25 and 29 years of age and the second most common form of cancer for adolescents and young adults between 15 and 29 years of age. Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer and is the leading cause of death from skin disease. However, when detected early, the survival rate for patients with melanoma is about 91 percent. The survival rate falls to 15 percent for those with advanced disease. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
