Subject: Electric Generation - Written Authorization and Cap on Variable Rates
 
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to require written customer authorization to begin the process of switching to an electric generation supplier.

I have heard from numerous constituents over the last few weeks who did not recall signing up for service with an electric generation supplier or who were unaware that dramatic rate increases could result from variable rate contracts.

In an effort to mitigate future occurrences of the rate spikes seen in January of this year, my bill will place a cap on the amount that a variable rate may increase from billing cycle to billing cycle. My bill also requires a customer to provide written authorization prior to their service being switched to a competitive supplier.
