Subject: | Resolution Commemorating the 65th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognizing December 10, 2013 as “International Human Rights Day in Pennsylvania.” |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution commemorating the 65th Anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognizing December 10, 2013 as “International Human Rights Day in Pennsylvania.” As I am sure you are aware, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was crafted in response to the atrocities committed by the Nazis during World War II. Referred to as “the international Magna Carta for all mankind” due to its intent to clarify the rights of all human beings, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights represents the first global expression of rights to which all human beings are inherently entitled. On December 10th, 1948 the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. December 10th is observed by various entities as a day to promote human rights awareness throughout the world. This year marks the 65th anniversary of that historic event. Please join me in commemorating the 65th Anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and recognizing December 10, 2013 as “International Human Rights Day in Pennsylvania.” Should you have any questions about this resolution, please contact Mason Lane at (717) 787-5741 or mlane@pahouse.net. |
