Subject: | Resolution designating September 2013 as “Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania |
I will be introducing a resolution designating September 2013 as “Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. It is estimated that 22,240 American women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer this year and more than 14,230 will die as a result. Ovarian cancer is the ninth most common cancer in women. One woman out of every 72 will develop ovarian cancer at some point in her lifetime. There is no single test that will diagnose this cancer and for this reason, many women are not diagnosed until late in the development of ovarian cancer. Ovarian Cancer is difficult to diagnose because the symptoms are subtle and very often misinterpreted by both women and physicians. |
