Subject: | Limitation on Interscholastic Athletics Disclosure Requirements |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that, if enacted, will amend the Public School Code of 1949 to limit the current interscholastic athletics disclosure requirements imposed on public schools pursuant to Article XVI-C of the Public School Code. Article XVI-C of the Public School Code, entitled “Disclosure of Interscholastic Athletics Opportunities,” imposes annual reporting requirements on all school districts, vocational-technical schools and charter schools that provide interscholastic athletic opportunities for secondary school students. Under Article XVI-C, public schools must report to the Department of Education detailed data regarding the following:
Article XVI-C entails a time-consuming and burdensome unfunded mandate on our public schools. I encourage my colleagues to review the Disclosure of Interscholastic Athletics Opportunities instructions and disclosure form, which can be found at: http://www.education.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_6_2_152474_9153_1419362_43/. To reduce this burden, my bill will limit the reporting requirements of Article XVI-C by:
