House of Representatives
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: August 2, 2013 02:09 PM
From: Representative Ed Gainey
To: All House members
Subject: Course Scheduling for Military Students

When the House reconvenes for session this fall, I will introduce legislation that allow course scheduling preference for current military and veteran students who attend public institutions of higher education in this Commonwealth.

Specifically, this legislation will amend the Military Code to allow these students to receive course scheduling preference to obtain a Bachelor or Associate Degrees. Specific parameters of this legislation are as follows:

  1. Allows preference for veteran and active military students who are at senior level either in a 4-yr or 2-yr institution obtaining a BS or AS;
  2. Requires the Dept. of Ed to create a non-complex form for public institutions to access through the internet and submit required information to the Department.
  3. Share information with the Veterans and Emergency Preparedness Legislative Committees and the department’s Office of Postsecondary & Higher Ed and the Division of Veterans Education for the purpose of analyzing this course scheduling program for continuation if needed.

I believe this is the least we can do for those who have or are so bravely served/serving us and our country.

If you have questions on this legislation, please contact Steph in my office @ shardman@pahouse.net .

Thank you.
