Subject: | Roberto Clemente Way |
In the near future, I will introduce legislation that would designate the 100 Block of West Erie Avenue in Philadelphia City, Philadelphia County as Roberto Clemente Way. Roberto Walker Clemente was born in Barrio San Anton in Carolina, Puerto Rico on August 18, 1934. He is remembered today as one of baseball’s best all-around right fielders, with one of the best arms in baseball. Often referred to as "The Great One," Roberto Clemente was the first Latin American player elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. He became a baseball legend in the United States, but in his homeland and throughout Latin America he became a national and cultural icon. Roberto Clemente's life ended on December 31, 1972 in a plane crash while en route to Nicaragua with relief supplies for earthquake victims. I hope you will join me in honoring Roberto Clemente by co-sponsoring this legislation. Thank you in advance for your consideration. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact my Harrisburg office at 717-705-1925. |
