Subject: | Cosponsorship: Resolution recognizing the 200th anniversary of the Philomathean Society of the University of Pennsylvania. |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing the 200th anniversary of the Philomathean Society of the University of Pennsylvania, the nation’s oldest collegiate literary society in continuous existence. The Philomathean Society of the University of Pennsylvania was founded on October 2, 1813 with the stated mission of “increasing the learning of the members and the academic prestige of the university”. Since its establishment, the society has achieved an unparalleled record of service to the University of Pennsylvania, and the City of Philadelphia in general, by sponsoring numerous scholarly publications, lectures, panel discussions, debates, poetry readings, film screenings, dramatic performances and art shows, all of which are free and open to the public. Please join me in encouraging the House of Representatives to honor the Philomathean Society of the University of Pennsylvania on the auspicious occasion of its 200th anniversary. |
