Subject: | Resolution - Celebrating 25 Years of Successful Recycling in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
Statewide recycling in Pennsylvania began in 1988 with the Municipal Waste Planning Recycling and Waste Reduction Act (Act 101), which requires larger municipalities to recycle. Today, more than 11.6 million residents, at least 94 percent of the state's population, have access to recycling. While Pennsylvania has, to date, done an outstanding job creating and implementing effective recycling programs, we as a Commonwealth should continue to seek improvements in our recycling law. In the near future I will be introducing legislation which celebrates 25 years of successful recycling in the Commonwealth and directs the Department of Environmental Protection to review its recycling programs and make recommendations for improving recycling law. Please join me in celebrating a quarter century of successful recycling in Pennsylvania and in taking steps to ensure there are many more to come. |
