| Subject: | Resolution - PA Academic Competition |
| I will be offering a House Resolution to encourage participation in the 22nd Annual Pennsylvania Academic Competition on May 3, 2013. This Academic Competition is a project sponsored by the PA House of Representatives and was initiated in 1992. This very successful competition rewards students for learning well and provides an excellent forum for students from across the Commonwealth to display their abilities. While much attention is given to the athlete, the scholar’s achievements are often secondary. I believe that we must do all we can to encourage and highlight academic excellence and recognize those who have achieved much and worked hard. Last year, students from twenty-four high schools competed on teams consisting of four students each. Student knowledge was tested in world history, American literature, American history, current events, and science. We need to promote excellence in education. I believe that this type of competition helps. Thank you for your consideration. |
