Subject: Recognizing Leadership Lackawanna for more than 30 years of Outstanding Service and Effort to improve the Lackawanna County area and Designating June 22, 2013 as “Leadership Lackawanna Day” in the Commonwealth

Soon I will introduce a resolution that recognizes Leadership Lackawanna for the outstanding service and work that it has provided to the Lackawanna County area since its founding more than 30 years ago. The resolution also will designate June 22, 2013, as “Leadership Lackawanna Day” in the Commonwealth. I hope each of you will join me in sponsoring and supporting this resolution.
I will tell you a bit about Leadership Lackawanna and why it deserves this honor. Leadership Lackawanna, a community education organization, was founded on June 22, 1982, by The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce as well as private and public sector officials and community leaders including Governor and Mrs. William Scranton. Leadership Lackawanna offers premier leadership development programs to Lackawanna County emerging professionals to enhance their skills and knowledge and help them better serve their organizations and communities.
Through its programs, Leadership Lackawanna fosters the development of community leaders by providing participants with leadership, interpersonal and managerial skills and an enhanced understanding of the issues and topics relevant to the Greater Scranton area through various monthly sessions. In addition to the monthly sessions, class members participate in group projects to enhance their leadership skills and foster teamwork. Upon graduation, participants have the information and skills to make an impact in the community. Graduates are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents in charting the future, growth and direction for Lackawanna County and its various organizations. For those reasons and more, Leadership Lackawanna has made a difference and improved life not only in Lackawanna County, but throughout the Commonwealth and in parts of the world.
