Subject: | Direct Conveyance of West Chester Armory to Non-profit |
I will soon be introducing legislation that authorizes the Department of General Services, with the approval of the Department of Military and Veteran Affairs (DMVA) and the Governor, to grant and convey the West Chester Armory to the Uptown! Entertainment Alliance. The Armory will be moving to the new Coatesville Readiness Center in Coatesville, PA by mid-2013. Therefore, the DMVA is actively seeking to transfer the property on which the armory is situated. The West Chester Armory should be maintained and preserved in accordance with the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. Direct conveyance under an approved “historic preservation covenant” to Uptown! Entertainment Alliance will ensure the property is maintained under those standards. The West Chester Armory is located in West Chester Borough, Chester County and was constructed in 1916. The property sits on approximately 0.60 acres in the borough. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the West Chester Historic District. The first step is General Assembly approval so please join me in this effort to make sure this historic property is transferred in the appropriate manner. The proposed legislation is attached. |
