From: Representative Paul I. Clymer
To: All House members
Subject: PARENTAL CONSENT FOR "R" RATED MOVIES IN THE CLASSROOM

In the future, I plan to introduce the following legislation:

The following shall apply to a school district that seeks to display, as part of its educational program, a motion picture rated “R” or “NC-17” by the Motion Picture Association of America:
  1. Prior to displaying the motion picture, the school district shall notify and obtain written consent from all parents or guardians of all students enrolled in the class in which the motion picture is to be displayed.
  2. If any parent or guardian of any student enrolled in the class in which the motion picture is to be displayed objects or fails to provide written consent to the display of the motion picture under subsection (a), the school district shall not display the motion picture during the current year.
